Daily walks in the Northern Arizona forest where I live provide me endless examples of how lines, shadows, shapes and values create a “landmark” of a place at a particular moment. Land Marks # 84 continues my study into mark making and how the interplay between marks, colors and values can relate to my natural environment. The colors were selected to portray that time of day when the sun begins to set and the sky is filled with brilliant colors of oranges, streaks of purples and grays. It is what I see when standing in the forest looking upwards above the tree lines to the sky. This piece invites viewers to “step” into my world.
